Even though we often believe that we can overcome anything alone, deep down we know that we need the help and support of others. Reaching out and taking this helping hand can be hard, but as a sufferer you could truly gauge with what is being said on an OCD blog.
The hardest challenge for anyone is to understand with real empathy the nature of what someone is going through. Some of us just do not have the skills or that emotional awareness because it is not happening to us directly. The best we can often do is have sympathy and so while love is in our hearts, we flounder through the uncertainty.
Sometimes you just want to walk a mile in their shoes because if you do not then you are there to cause them more grief. As with everything it all starts with good intentions. These are there so that you can find the courage and guidance you seek in order to be able to offer more than just a compassionate hug.
By reading all the stories of other sufferers you will be able to open your eyes to the reality. Accept that you will not be able to truly help them if you do not understand. They may not want it, but you need to make them see the benefits.
Try not to get frustrated during the whole process and if things get too much for you then take a rest bite. One has to accept that they cannot simply snap out of it just because you are yelling for them to do just that. Instead they will become more withdrawn and it will become increasingly difficult to get them out of their shells.
When people are ill treated, they tend to turn away from others and seek solitude. This is not good for someone who is going through such a difficult condition. All they really need to help them is a bit of understanding, which does go a very long way towards really helping.
Nobody likes to think that they are not wanted because they have something that others do not understand. Rejection is the worst thing that they can endure and so they just keep all that anxiety and depression to themselves because at least that way they will not be seen as being abnormal.
Even though we are unique individuals, we still like to belong to a group that will accept us for who we are. When you have obsessive compulsive disorder, you feel less like a human being and more like a freak of nature. These kind of thoughts do not help and only aggravate the situation, making you feel more helpless.
It is not good for you to seek out solitude because the truth of the matter is, you are not alone thus must not carry this burden alone. There are thousands of suffers worldwide who share your same feelings and know that things can get better.
