Interview by Lon Woodbury
Ken Rabow, a life success coach in Toronto, Canada, spoke to Lon Woodbury, host of L.A. Talk Radio and founder of strugglingteens.com, about his work in empowering success for young adults.
About Ken Rabow
Besides his life mentoring job, Rabow is author of "The Slackers Guide to Success," which is readily available on Amazon.com. After having actually dealt with struggling teens and young people since 2001, Rabow has proposed an in-depth plan in his "The Slackers Guide to Success." His program involves 3 stages and 13 steps for any counselor or life coach to deal with young people.
Enabling Success for Young Adults
During the interview, Rabow discussed why so many young people self-sabotage every aspect of their potential future. Young adults are up against a unique challenge in today's modern culture-the rules of success that worked in the past no longer work. There is no playbook on how to handle the numerous cultural crises faced by young people-including fitting into a draconian educational system or finding a job in a recessionary economy.
Consequently, a brand-new phenomenon has arisen for Gen Y young adults--succeeding at failing. Feeling stuck, young people sabotage by not competing in class, not going to exams, staying up late at night, sleeping most of the day and missing out on important classes in school. Yet another big factor is obsessive video gaming or partaking in drug abuse as a method to avoid psychological angst. Even those that are gifted may choose to fail in life.
Parents are often overwhelmed with this disengagement from participating in societal values and many are at their wits end trying to figure out how to make their child grow up and take responsibility.
Rabow offers parents and their troubled teens or young adults an alternative way to get back on track when traditional therapeutic approaches fail. He has developed a unique process through trial and error for empowering success for young adults. He teaches young adults how to regain self-belief and accumulate confidence-building wins in life.
When new customers come to see him, Rabow starts the process of creating a relationship by seeking the answer to 3 simple inquiries:
First: Are you satisfied with exactly how things are going in your life?
* Do you see your present way of being as a viable long-term strategy?
3. If you could be doing everything you want with your life, exactly what interests would you desire to pursue?
He then works with a young person to put together a daily routine based on the client's interests. His book and his practice outline steps for empowering success for young adults, placing an emphasis on raising self-esteem and using a gradual process of small victories to gain self-confidence in the ability to do things competently.
