Self Concept Is Developed Through Singing

By Lee Larossier

How each and every person is perceived by those around them is different, depending on their own outlook on life, the environment and many other factors. However, the most important opinion is self concept, which drives how a person lives his or her life.

As much as the way people see you is driven by external factors, so is your self concept. Quite often, the biggest influencing factor will be the society around you. However, this is very much influenced by how you present yourself.

Such is the importance of the way people view themselves, parts of the medical and scientific world are focused on researching it. Understanding how to measure and develop it are seen as important, at as early an age as possible. However, only limited success has so far been seen.

Whilst progress has been seen in both areas for older children, the five through eight group has not. Such is the importance of life perception at this age, for adolescence, pubescence and beyond, still much work continues into how things can be improved.

Major studies across the world have highlighted key areas for improvement and suggested steps to take. It is widely believe that the combination of better measurement tools, greater analysis of results and improved methodology will help.

The findings have also led to practical tasks to improve development. Communal singing has been found to be effective in this regard, with improvements recorded in many areas. Better integration, improved health and a positive attitude were all resultant.

How we see ourselves is a huge influence in the choices that we make, and the choices that are made for us. As such, self concept affects our professional and personal lives. If how it develops and how it can be positively improved happens at a young age, the benefits are clear for future generations.
